I have a Tech 6 handheld throttle that I have had for two or three years. I use it to control my old DC locomotives, as well as the new DCC sound-equipped stuff. This thing has worked really well over the last couple of years. Now, the "speed control" knob doesn't advance the speed-steps consistently as the knob is turned. Sometimes the knob has to be turned SEVERAL "clicks" before the led readout (or the speed) advances. Sometimes I can press down hard on the knob while turning, and the speed will advance click-by-click. Sometimes, I have to pull-out on the knob to get it to work. Is it possible the contacts in the control are DIRTY? Has anyone had this problem, and corrected it? Sometimes I have to just spin the heck out of the knob for a while to get it to respond, but after a few days (or longer) being idle, it goes back to it's "acting up". Anybody experienced this one?

Contact MRC. Chances are there's nothing you can do yourself even if you can manage to open it up. The control has probably gone bad and needs to be replaced, but finding a replacement would be extremly iffy because it's probably soldered directly to a circuit board.
