Intermountain SD40 2w Light Problem
Posted by blabride on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 7:17 PM

Hello,

Before I send this locomotive back I thought I would check with the more electronic savvy on here and see if I may have missed something simple. This loco has an odd light problem with its factory soundtrax decoder. When on the track the headlight does not respond to f10 or the headlight button on my powercab. When power is applied to move forward it comes on at about .11 amps. But then goes on and off at different amps until reaching top speed. The rear LED performs the same way. The number board lights and ditch lights function as normal. The headlights also will not respond to any re programmming of CV49. I took the body off and everything seems in place. Could I have a faulty decoder?

Thanks

SB

Good idea but no luck. This one will go back  as well. The first one I recieved had a missing handrail. I understand what people are saying about Intermountain locos now, of the four I have bought over the last five years three went back. It's a shame as they look very nice. I think I will stick with my Genesis. Of the 26 Genesis I own I have only had problems with one needing a bulb replacemenet and two GP50's and one Gp38 2 needing the rear handrail replaced. Which they quickly sent replacements and a piece for my boxes so it would not happen again.

Thanks

Call Intermountain first before you send it back.  See what they have to say about the decoder.

As far as Intermountain versus Genesis, I actually prefer Intermountain if I had to choose one over another.

I have several of each brand of loco.  Never had a problem with Intermountain, but several issues with Genesis.
