 Manual control is MUCH nicer than Tsunami's default of starting up when it hits speed step one. And shutting off sound by using the E-stop? That too is kind of silly when there are 29 functions to use. I'd much rather hit a function to turn things on than have everything come alive in one huge busrt of sound, and just hitting a function to shut things down is much simpler and less obtrusive.

I had the exact some problem, but the complete opisite. I did not want to hear the sound when power to system is turned on. I had to program several CVs to put it in mute mode, when power is turned on. Then when I address the loco, I press F8 to turn on the sounds.

Mark and some others helped me with that, they were great help. Maybe ESU heard too many complaints about it, and changed the default setttings.

Nobody in their right mind, would want to hear 20 locos all sound starting up at the same time, when you turn your system on.

Mark, Thank you very much for a tip !!

At first, I thought that there is something wrong with my model.
However, Esu did it on purpose to avoid to many models starting sounds at the beginning when people turn power on.

A very strange idea. The quiet mode from Soundtraxx is much better solution.

yes ,I feel you r pain ,I went thru the same problem with a FT w/tsunami address consist with FT w loksound never figured it out so had to give separate addresses then consist thru the command station , always wondered if I could have remapped the function on the loksound since its the one that is out a sync .

I myself was able to trade the loksound unit (and it a very nice unit)for a tsunami so I didn't have to print up another 300 page owners manual and learn it .

 so to answer your question, with my limited Knowledge ,you have to address each unit separate then consist ..some one with more knowledge well chime in...Jerry

and it looks like they did !

Change the following CV's to reverse the functioning of F8 ....

CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2

----------------------

CV403 =  32

CV's 31 and 32 are register CV's - they need to be changed first before you change CV 403.

Kato P42 Sound on/off with F8 button
Posted by Arras88 on Friday, December 27, 2013 6:24 AM

Hi,
I received my Kato P42 model today. It runs smoothly and I like it but there is one little problem.
Unlike all my models Kato plays sound only when function F8 is on.
It's a version with Loksound Select decoder.

The function F8 is usually used to mute the sound. Models turn on the sound when the power goes to tracks and might be muted with F8 button.
This model doesn't start sound when the power goes to tracks. I have to push button F8 to start sound.

Is it possible to programm it to the normal behaviour with F8 function?
It is impossible to run this model in constist with sound right now. When I hit F8 to play sound in Kato other engine's sound goes off.

I've never had the situation like this in any of my sound equipped models.

Regards,
Arek
