and just to add there is still a slight differance in comparing startup of the tsunami to the QSI (after changes made0

the tsunami needs to be addressed AND throttled to 1 for start-up where as the

QSI is addressed startup REGARDLES of throttle  meaning when you power up your system the QSI sounds well start IF you left the loco addressed the tsunami needs a thottle of 1 or better

so when youre done running you need to clear the loco address from ALL throttles if you want them in quite mode when you next turn on system....Jerry

do you know the version # of your QSI decoders cause checking mine I have cv-29 = 50 is the "DCC only "forward mode and im thinking indexed cv 56.0 v= 0 is "address packet startup"

NOW this is reading from decder pro on several of my QSI , PLEASE verify before you make changes..Jerry

hmm; ALL mine will ONLY come alive when addressed. But dont remember if that was a cv change or not, though Im thinking it may have to do with the cv that makes it only run in DCC ONLY , so it does not come ALIVE WHEN POWER HITS THE RAILS.

I use decoder-pro and use a list of changes and one of these is " dcc only "and a nother is "sound startup" , i will have to check my settings...Jerry

If you go through the "Shut down" procedure of three clicks of F9 your loco should stay "asleep" until you wake it up with the double push of F6. You may hear a noise from a shut down loco when you power up the layout but it won't go through the startup sequence and be able to run until you do the F6 double click (after you have addressed the loco).

Some of my older QSI's do seem to have that feature, but it seems to me that the only one reliably behaving as if it does is my Lionel HO Challenger. It often goes to sleep on its own if it receives no user-inputs during a session.   When I power up the next time, it will be silent until I acquire it on my DT400 Digitrax throttle.

Kind of. Before you shut down the system you can put the locomotives to sleep and not wake till you hit F6 3 times. Download the manual from QSI and look up disconnect and stand by.

QSI Auto Start
Posted by Tophias on Thursday, December 26, 2013 11:50 AM

I have 3 old (5-10 years approx.) Proto locos with factory installed QSI Quantum sound decoders on my Digitrax Super Chief Xtra system.  I recently discovered here about a funtion on Tsunamis that turns off the Auto Start feature (CV 116) so that when track power is turned on the loco does not sound until it is called up on the throttle.  Do the old QSI's have this feature as well?  Thanks.
