MTH DCC LOCO
Posted by Aalcors1 on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 10:16 PM

I have 3 MTH PA s in Ho  . i was runnning them in a consist,  the locos went over a switches causing them to stall out a few times. eventually they lost addresses. i was able to get back 2 of the 3 by addressing the locos as 00, then resetting the address back to 3 then to their cab #'s. . the 3rd engine just runs on its own, no respone to the throttle or by reseeting it back to factory default to 00 or 3. im sure there is a way to gain control of this loco... any help would be appreicated.

Try programming on the main, and program CVs. CV 19 = 0

all 3 engines where sent back to MTH & reprogrammed. i was running them tonight alll but 1 ran good. #19 was running normally then it stopped & reversed itself & is a run away at a snails pace. no response to the throttle or resetting CV values. address 55 to cv 55 to decimal 55. any other ideas to reprogram this loco, mth is able to do it & when i spoke to them thats all they said they did...any help would be appreciated...thank you

You sent back ALL three locomotives to MTH???  I thought you were able to reprogram two of them to the orginal address?  I'm assuming that the "00" reference indicates that you are using a Digitrax DCC system to operate/program your layout.

Did MTH stipulate that they reprogrammed your locomotives with DCC vs. DCS?  It's possible that stalling (shorting?) them over turnouts "several times" might have done something to part of the decoder.

the last time i sent them back to MTH 2 out of the 3 i had lost control, the 3rd loco had the wrong horn sound installed from MTH. Im sure some the problem im having is from running these locos on the layout & they are shorting out over switches that have been left in the wrong postion by other operaters, & from when i run with others using brass DCC engines which short out due to their rigidness.  when i got them back they ran pretty good alone until #19 got a bug. it did stall at a closed switch & loose the adress , but i was able to reprogram it. then it ran well until it stall which i dont know why then reversed itself & now crawls. with no response to the throttle. I spoke to a tech from  MTH. They  say the capasitor for the addres may be bad so im sending the one back to them to replace it. these engines are about 3-4 months old & have spent more time in the mail back & forth to MTH than running on the layout. I did mention to MTH that I am running Digitrax DCC & will do so again.
