How to convert DC layout to DCC layout
Posted by incap247 on Monday, November 25, 2013 2:21 PM

Hi everyone, I want to change my DC layout to DCC but I'm confused on how to do it. Do I have to rewire everything, can I use my old DC wiring? I have a 4 by 10. It seems so complicated. I know what to do with the trains. But the track I'm lost. I'm 11 years old and I want to know because it's my layout.

Thank you

Gabriel

I am not an expert on DCC but from what i have read it would appear that short of acquiring the DCC equipment, power, controllers and loco decoders, basically you just need to join the DC you already have into several power zones, mainly for maintenance and trouble shooting reasons, and get to running trains.  There are several books available on the topic and the hobby mags often have articles that deal with the basics as well as more advanced topics.  Try finding a local club that has someone familiar with DCC.  They are usually thrilled to help someone like you get started.
