Hello,
I have thought all that I can possibly can... And I cannot figure out what is causing my problem.I have an Intermountain ES44AC with sound that has a LokSound Decoder in it. It appears that when power is applied the locomotive starts up. However, when I begin to throttle it up with my Zephyr it will accelerate, but when it gets to the speed that it is throttled up to, it will suddenly begin braking. It then comes to a stop for a few seconds and then takes off again. This is constant and it does this about 3 times within 6 feet.
It seems that it will run and then stop, run then stop... While all of this is happening, my hand is not even touching the throttle on the Zephyr.
Any advice on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Nate:
It sounds like you have the loco selected on more than one throttle (the Zephyr and a handheld?). Dispatch the loco from all throttles and you then should be able to select it on one and be OK. Make sure that you dispatch the loco when you are done running it.

Joe in PA,
Thank you for the advice. I tried to dispatch the locomotive from the zephyr. The zephyr is the only throttle that I have. I also cleared out the Zephyr, reset the LokSound decoder too. Still stuck. : /

Is this the only locomotive doing this? Did you reset the loco back to factory settings and try it on address 3? How is the track buss wired to the layout? Maybe not enough feeders to the rails?

I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
Pete,
I have come to discover that this is not the only locomotive doing this... I did, however, reset the engine back to factory setting and try it on address 3. Up until today, this problem has not ever happened in the past. I am clueless at this point.
Update:
I believe that I have realized what the problem was. After tinkering with this issue all evening, I believe that I may have an assumption to what caused my issue. Earlier, I reset the Zephyr system while I had the engine (address 03) running slowly on the track. When I reset it, the engine stopped. However, a little while earlier after seeing Pete's post, I went back to reset the zephyr. The same engine was on the track as before, but this time it was stopped. After stopping, it started right up and ran normally. The other engine that I was referring to in the post above was also set to address 03. Two engines being addressed to 03 created all of my confusion. Thank you for the advice that was received. It helped me to resolve my issue.
Thanks again,
Thanks for letting us know what the cause of your problem turned out to be. I hope that you are back to happily running trains.
