Kato DCC Loco just stopped working
Posted by Swannert on Sunday, November 10, 2013 5:46 PM

I haven't run my Kato F3 DCC loco in a couple of months. Tonight when I put it on the track it wouldn't move. All my other locos run fine. This one doesn't seem to have any power going to it. I checked the circuit board and it seems secure with no loose connections. I've already tried re-programming it but it just sits there, dead.  any suggestions?

Clean the wheels.  Did you try a decoder reset?  When you say you tried reprogramming it and it still doesn't work, will it run on the default address of 3?  If so, then maybe CV29 needs to be adjusted if you are trying to change to a long address.

What scale? N Scale could be the motor contacts lost contact with the decoder under the little grey clip.

thats exactly what it was. the contacts moved away and the grey clip became loose. i pushed it back in and it works sporadically so ill have to find a way to secure it better

I have given up on the clip holding the co0ntacts tight to the decoders. I solder the contacts to the boards now. Same design on The E's, PA's, PM42's, F40's. I tin the contacts and the pads on decoder. Then hold the contact down on the pad, heat it and bond teh two together with solder.
