Just had my dt 402 up graded to 402 D got it back and it seemed to work oK then I noticed the backlite didn't work Did a total factory reset of the throttle still nothing anyone else have this problem I get tired of all the shipping back and forth I have been trying to get a db 150 fixed right for about a year why can't they just get it right
Roadie,
Are you sure the 'BackLite' function is not working? Do the following to your DT402D:
I had my old DT400R upgraded to a DT402D about a year ago and never even looked at the 'BackLite' function. I just tried mine an it is working. I guess my layout space is lit real good! I do see the 'Flashlite' function when reading reporting marks on freight cars!
If this does not resolve the problem, you may need to contact Digitrax Technical Support. The above information is in your DT402D manual. BTW, what are your DB150 problems?

I've sent back my DT400R twice, DCS200 once UT4R once and soon my two year old DT402D(packing it up tomorrow since the unit can't communicate via RF). All in about 5 years or so. My Zephyr Xtra is two years old and works fine so far.
I cannot say that Digitrax is reliable.

I have a Zephyr, a DB150, a DT400, a DT402, and I bought an old DT100 on eBay. I've had the Zephyr for 9 years, the DT400 for 8 years, the DT402and DB150 for about 4 years, and the DT100 about 3 years, not sure exactly when it was first put in to use by the pseron I bought it from, or if it only had one owner before me.
Everything has always just worked. Never had a problem with any of it, nor any of the accessories I have such as a PM42 and a PR3.

I have a Super Chief, 2 DT402Ds, 1 UT4-D, 8 DS-64s, 1 BDL 168, and a PR3. None of them have ever given me any trouble. I CAN say that Digitrax is reliable.

When I first got my UT-4 upgraded to radio control, it all worked great together for a couple months. Then it became less and less steady. Now I can't even get the infra-red pickup to work. I've sent it back to Digitrax, and the UR-whatever receiver, and they say both are fine.
My club installed a DCS200 plus a DB200 plus one UR91 in 1999. They were plugged and stayed on since, we only put track power off when not operating. Everything work as expected, we never had to contact Digitrax for service.
Personally I own a Digitrax Zephyr since 2001 or 2002 ,don't remember, I also own one UT1, one DT100R, one UT4R, one DT400R, one DT402D, one UR91, one UR92 and one PR3. Furthermore I have installed 6 PR3 so far on Win XP, Vista, Win 7 64 bits and they all worked as expected first time. I never had to use Digitrax service at all.
I can say Digitrax is very reliable.

Well, a fresh 9V alkaline battery puts out 9V, but it drops off VERY quickly. Most NiCad and NiMH are 8.4, since each cell is only 1.2V vs 1.5V for an alkaline. But there are some that are 9.6. Also, apart from a few brands that are much more expensive, most rechargeables self-discharge just sitting ont he shelf. For my camera I have Sanyo Enloop AA's, they stay charged for months. Powerex has a 9.6V rechargeable that works the same way - they are over $10 each though, and you need the proper chrger to go with them. Beats buying packs of Duracells all the time though.
I don;t have radio, yet, so I never use batteries.
There are always buggy exceptions. It can't be much fun knowing you are doing everything correctly, but you still can't enjoy the product. Getting back repair invoices saying there's no detectable fault is as infuriating, even if just for the extra cost to get that diagnosis.
In my case, I have a seven year old SEB now well into its third layout. It still works reliably like a champ.
