sound decoder
Posted by spike64 on Sunday, February 24, 2013 5:22 PM

I have recently gotten a Bachmann Spectrum 70 ton three truck Climax.  It has DCC on board (lights & direction), I want to add sound.  Hopefully someone on this forum has some experience that would save trying to invent the wheel again. Product suggestions or techniques would be most appreciated.

In our shop, Tsunami is the favored sound decoder. It will be a hard wire install as there is no plug and play int that product line.Go to the Soundtraxx web site and look up their products appropriate for your loco. I would remove the Bachmann unit completely and use the Tsunami for sound and control.

You can buy an 8-pin or 9-pin connector with wires installed and solder those wires to the wires on the decoder.  I did that to the Soundtraxx that I put in my Spectrum K4.

Gentlemen both your suggestions seem to fit together, though hard wire is what I expected.  The biggest challenge is finding room for the speaker.  To both of you; Thanks for your thoughts.
