Kato Decoder Instillation

I just bought my first Kato locomotive, it is a F40PH . I installed a Tsunami TSU-KT1000 which is the decoder recommened for this loco. Everything went well and it works great but the front headlight won't show out the front. I want see it lit on the decoder but the front light on the decoder I installed is just a bit longer than the circuit board I took out. When I go to but the top back on it bends the light down just a touch and therefore does not project out the front like it should. Did anyone else have this problem? Can I take a tweezers and bend it in the right direction or cut the leads off the light and re-solder the light? This is my first instillation and I don't want to ruin a $100 decoder. Can anyone help me? Gary

First, are you sure that you don't have the decoder in the locomotive backwards?

If the LED has enough lead length between it and the board, you could bend the leads up, then down, then straight. Like putting an inverted V in the leads. ( --^-- ) This may shorten the length so the LED will be pulled back enough to fit.
