double stranded wire
Posted by musky52 on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 6:55 AM

You can find plenty of single rolls of hobby wire on the internet but I can't seem to find any 20 and 22 guage double stranded (2 color) wire. Radio Shack has it in 18 guage. Does anyone have any sites where it might be available. If not it looks likd All Electronics Corps might be the best source of single rolled wire in different colors. Thank you

All Electronics has Red/Black automotive grade zip cord in gauges ranging from 12 to 24, catalog numbers WRB-12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24, with those numbers being the wire gauge.  They sell it in 10, 50, 100, and 500 foot lengths.

I used the All Electronics red/black 24AWG for power from my control panel to my Tortoises.  I believe you can order a specific length (I bought 70' last time to complete my needs) at x-cents/ft, maybe 10' increments required.

I've been really happy with the service of Mouser, All Electronics and Hobby Engineering for my small wiring / electronics supplies.  One of the websites is tough (I think Mouser) for me as they have so much stuff that it's a little harder to specify what I need in a search because I don't understand the lingo & technical differences.  The All Electronics paper catalog is easy to find items, but I needed Mouser for 3M suitcase connectors, I think, and found Hobby Engineering handy for 22AWG solid feeder wire.

Radio Shack does have 20 and 22 awg wire in red, black and green, solid and stranded.  (I'm not sure what you mean by "double stranded," however.)

I think he means 2 conductor, like speaker wire only in 2 different colors.

Home Depot and Lowes sells thermostat and bell wire by the foot or in spools.  It is 18 guage and comes in either two conducter or three conductor.  It is solid, not stranded but I prefer it especially for soldering feeders to track.
