I tried Christmas tree lights a couple of years ago, but found it rather difficult to remove them from their mounts without damage.  The main difference was, the Christmas tree light string was Inverted Cone LEDs.

Xmas light come in all sorts of configurations. Some are totally glued together, some partially glued-in, and then there are the good ones -- look for a little snap on the side, flick it open and pull out the LED. Yep, in the favored 3mm warm white, cone reflector flavor.

So it pays to "test" them in-store for suitability. If you can't get the LED out intact in 5 seconds with your fingernail, then move on to something better.

Hard to beat $8/100 for them, but Xmas lights are everywhere, just be picky.

No slow boat from China orders.
I got that same vibe too from the very subtle "NO CHINA BS" he plastered over every fifth inventory image Laugh.

"We are a legit tax paying, English speaking company."  Ya, he is definitely anti china. Good for him.Mischief

Well I'm sure it almost all comes from China, he just has inventory in the US for quick shipment.

Couple of places I got stuff from are like that. The servos I got for switch motors ship right from China though, and even on the EC US, it only takes a couple of weeks.

OTOH, the selection and price look very good, I think I'm going to need to make an order soon...

Wow, 5 meter reels of LED lights for $15? MicroMark wants $50 for that.

I do the same thing as you do. It was slightly over 8 dollars for 100. And I ordered 100 resistors from the same guy for 5 dollars.

Just wondering, since as I stated before, I missed the end-of-season Christmas light sale, does the eBay vendor mentioned have a store? A continued presence (via Buy-It-Now)?  Are there several.  Names would be good, as like anyone else I'd rather deal with a known quantity that modelers have dealt with successfully in the past...

Sure,

This is the guys ebay store I got mine from:

Instead of trying to remove Christmas tree light LEDs, I found 100 on e-Bay for $8 -- Warm White, 3mm, Super-Bright, with full length leads on them -- much easier to work with than the ones removed from a light string.

Maybe in the WalMarts out in big sky country there were some lights left, but here on Long Island NY I checked some 'Marts (and Targets) a few days after Christmas and they were all sold out by then - lots of Wrapping paper, Inflatable Santas, and (oddly) Star Trek Pez dispensers left, but no strings of LED lights (a handful of regular replacement bulbs, not LEDs though).

Now be the time to buy your LEDs at Walmart. There are a few sets left. The LION bought 8 sets of 50 (400 lamps) for $12.00.

SMART LION!

Of course in previous years there were none to be had after Christmas, so I did buy a set of 180 for $22.00 before Christmas.

Better check them out before some LION comes to a Walmart near you and buys them all up.
