Was running a DCC engine with sound when it became intermittent in operation and sound. On LED screen of zephyr what look like the letter " C " is marching across the screen? Can anyone tell me what that means?
Have found no reference in the manual that I have
Multi meter seems to find no dc voltage on rails.?
With zephyr attached to separate piece of track, all seems to work ok?
So far cleaning track and engine wheels has produced no different results.
Thanks for any help.

Overload or short is normally indicated by O's, bt C's are used on teh Xtra, might be undocumented on the original Zephyr. Can;t say I've ever seen it on mine, but given that it works ine when connected to an isolated piece of track would indicate there's somethign int he track or wiring causing it. Anything change? Like new track, extra feeders? Maybe a wire shifted and some bare connections are now touching each other? Does it do it connected to the layout if all locos and lighted cars are removed? If so, disconnect the Zephyr and test with the meter in continuity mode if it has one, if it beeps - you have a short on the layout somewhere. It could eb something silly, too, like a piece of wire or metal that fell off a loco and is now shorting, or a screw, or track nail.

Thanks Randy. By breaking the track in 2 locations I have the problem isolated to one section. Unfortunately it is a rather large section but I will break it down. Was a DC layout and wired as such, so this I think will give me the urge to rewire.
Thanks again. If I can buy you a hot dog at the Amherst show in Springfield at the end of the month, let me know.
I once found a track spike lodged in a turnout. No idea how it got there. Stuff happens. Look your track over carefully in the isolated section, especially any turnouts or switches.
If you post your question on the Digitrax site, you will get a response from one of the Digitax techs.
Otherwise you will be getting mainly guesses...................... Well meaning for the most part but still not from the source you should be contacting.
The manual for the DCS50 is posted at the Digitrax site

Sec 24 of the manual address "c"
I'll have to try again next year - I was looking forward to coming to AMherst for the first time this year, but family medical issues have put the early train show season on hold for now. I'll be skipping Timonium in February as well. There's a local show here two weeks after that, I'll be doing that one most likely, since it's literally 5 minutes away.
Problem solved. Not sure how but track cleaning, wheel cleaning, readjusting some track and we are up and running. Now I guess we will have to get serious about taking the time to improve the wiring.
Thanks to all far your help.
What probably happened is that you got into 'Switch' mode and that was the 'c' on the panel - just press the 'exit' key.
