Using JMRI. Software and cable questions.
Posted by robkoz on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 9:45 PM

Got my son the NCE USB interface. Have a couple of questions.

1. What was NCE thinking when using a USB printer interface? Had to steal the cable from the printer. lol

2. Is this the right place to get the software for the pc:

http://jmri.sourceforge.net/download/

3. Gonna try WiThrottle off the ipod tomorrow. Use the software above in #2?

Thanx! This should be an interesting learning curve :)

WHy not? It's a standard cables, USB A to B. Just bought a new printer, that is wireless as wella s USB and they even included it - so yet ANOTHER spare cable for the junk box.

Yes, that is the correct location to download JMRI

Need to have JMRI installed cond configured (try using a computer throttle and seeign if you can run a train first - if that works, you are ready to try WiThrottle. Within JMRI you launch the WiThrottle server component, then launch WiThrottle on your iPod. It's best if you have any firewall on you computer disabled, if you have a wireless router between the computer and your internet connection, it's not needed anyway. So long as you computer na iPod can both connect to the access point/router, it should work.

JMRI is a very technical interface program suite.  If you can't find all the answers here, they have a very good support group on Yahoo Groups that can get you more technical answers.

Elmer.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.

What cable do you use to hook up the USB interface to the NCE Power Panel? The spiral wire doesn't seem to work with the power cab.

Never mind. My son got JMRI up and running on his laptop..He's already got the app on his ipod. I'm sure he'll figure that out in no time. lol
