Plugging in decode into socket on board.

I have a proto 2000 sd9 i am looking at installing a digitrax dh163d 1.5amps now the socket as 8pin holes the decoder as 9 pins what do you do with that. I didn't buy it yet. do i need the 9th pin or should i look for one with 8. I hope someone can help me with this

You need a 9-pin JST to 8-pin NMRA wiring harness.  Digitrax and TCS both make them.

Here are photos of the TCS harnesses, which come in two length.  The short one is what you will need.

The place you are getting the decoder from should have the 8 pin NMRA connector to 9 pin JST connector adapter.
