Hi Ken,
If the unit is under 12 months old I would suggest exercising the Digitrax "no questions asked" warranty.
I have never heard of this type of fault before.
Cheers

Thanks Joe. Ken
Thanks Randy & RETSIGNALMTR! As you said, I found the screws on the edge of the case bunder the battery cover. I had looked in the compartment but not on the bottom casing edge. My boo-boo.
The small burned plastic tips meant to hold in the CB were broken off -- they were really small, I'm surprised they held at all. I ended up having to put 4 1x3"pieces of 1/8" foam, the stuff from Michaels I use for streets, atop each other beneath the push buttons CB before I could get the buttons to stay up without sticking.
Thanks again. Mucch appreciated. Ken
The screws are in the corners. They are black and blend in. Joe
I have had my UT4r and my DT400r open to install shut off switches. The cases both open the same way. In the lower corners of the area of the battery compartment there are two small black screws. After removing the screws the case the case just slides apart with the front sliding up to release the locking tabs. Be very careful as the case is very tight and if you use too much force you could rip out some of the innards. If I remember right the boards are not held in with screws and the ends of the mounting standoffs are melted to lock the boards in place.
Randy, I don't have it in front of me now, but I thought I really looked into that battery compartment after I removed its short cover and didn't see any screws. I'll go over to his house tomorrow and look again.
Thanks for your help.
Ken
Screws are in the battery compartment, then the case has slide latches along both sides. If the buttons are really jammed that far in, the it's been stepped on or otherwise subject to some extreme force which probbaly broke the suppord that hold the circuit board off the back of the case. You should be able to see that just looking in the battery compartment. AFAIK the circuit board is not screwed to the front of the case but held in place by plastic extrusions that are part of the case.

Problem:
A friend of mine has this controller on his layout.
The entry key pads have sunk below the surface and ar not usable.. I suspect the circuit board has somehow become detatached as when you press the little bit shoing, both rows drop dow below the surface.
Question:
Has anyone been successful in getting inside the unit? There are no screws on the back or eith end, and I suspect they may be on the fron under the Digitrax labels.
Anyone know how to get the unit open?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. Ken
