For about the same amount of money of a Tech 6, you can get a DCC starter system.

I would buy a starter kit. Because they are now no longer so expensive and you get pretty good for little money.

When I started back then. Was that even DC. Meanwhile, I only buy DCC w/Sound DCC Ready or rolling stock. DC have much rolling stock sold very little and I like to build on DCC or DCC w/sound. For example, the first Lokomotive...

From what I have found so far, those that come from the factory are ready for dual mode. Those from a private party may have disabled the DC option as some times a runaway under DCC can happen and has happened to some.

however with proto and others going to Tsunami sound- what do i need to operate Tsunami sound on DC?

i plan on buying a new Tsunami equipped Geep. so all i need would simply be an MRC block box or Tech 6 sound controller to get all the sounds? i usually only run 1 loco at a time anyway. both the MRC units are available on Ebay for a good price. which would be the better choice?

First - new tsunamis are programmed with the analog (DC) disabled. At least this is the case when you buy a decoder to install in an existing loco. I don't know how they're programmed when you buy a loco with a tsunami already installed.

So, you can't just put a tsunami on a DC system and expect it to perform. It'll just sit there with engine idle sounds and you won't be able to move it. If the analog is disabled, you'll need to change the CV's.

Also, I'm not familiar with the Tech 6; but after an internet search and reading the description, it APPEARS it may work.  For about the same amount of money of a Tech 6, you can get a DCC starter system.

thank you for the info Bob. i plan on buying a new Tsunami equipped Geep. i'm just too dang old [or stubborn] to start a DCC system at this time. so all i need would simply be an MRC block box or Tech 6 sound controller to get all the sounds? i usually only run 1 loco at a time anyway. both the MRC units are available on Ebay for a good price. which would be the better choice? thank you again. regards, michael.

For Tsunami sound on DC you are going to need a Dcc system or a MRC Black Box  or MRC tech 6 controller. On DC with Tsunami you will only get the motor/engine sound without  DCC. You won't be able to run a Sound engine with a DC only engine at the same time.
