IM ES44DC decoder reset
Posted by Arras88 on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 4:13 AM

Hi,
My friend has a problem with IM ES44DC. He tried to program decoder to have a loco in reverse so he set up CV29=35. Unfortunatelly, the model doesn't run after it. The sound starts but engine doesn't respond to any order. I found a manual for soundtraxx decoders and told him that he should enter  CV30=2 or CV8=8 to reset the decoder. He claims that it doesn't help.

Are these values are right for resetting a decoder in IM Gevo?
Any other idea? How to set up CV for reversing a direction ?

1. Your CV reset values look good.

2. How does he know the decoder did or did not reset?   These decoders require  a programming booster(normally) to program in service mode, otherwise it should be done in ops mode.

3. CV29=35 is one of the correct values to run normally in reverse.

4. IMHO, he should check CV29 in service mode to see if the 35 value took.   Sometimes the 4 digit addressing can be a problem to get it to take.    He can also check the values in CV1,17 and 18.   The loco not running could possibly be due to an address problem.

5. I like to program these decoders using Decoder Pro as it is much easier to track what has or has not really changed--and to make sure I didn't make another mistake.

Arek.

Who makes the decoder? Could it be a Digitrax decoder? What is is the address? 35 in CV29 would require a 4 digit address. Make sure that CV19 is 0. Also hit F6 twice if it is a QSI decoder that is in shut down mode.

The decoder in IM Gevo is Soundtraxx Sound decoder.
Luckily, we managed to fix the problem. But, it was very strange. I have never seen the decoder which had problems like this. I have programmed many different decoders and I have never had any problems with changing direction in CV29.

The decoder should respond on address 3 after reset. It never happened. We tried both - programming on a program track and a main track (DCC system is Prodigy Advanced). We were able to program decoder (the model was moving a bit after each CV programing). We programmed CV29 back to value 6, CV 1 to value and  we still couldn't run the model. It didn't respond on any address.

After this I was trying to find a solution in the internet and my frustrated friend was trying to find the address which loco could respond on. He started from 1 to 200, after it he tried 9999 and..... 0 :) Bingo ! Loco respondedon address 0. Then we programmed CV29 to 6 for address 0 on main track and CV1 to 3. Everything was ok. Finally we changed CV29 for 7. Problem solved ! :) My friend has a model which respond for address 3 and runs in reverse. It should be a simple operation. Insted of fe seconds we we speny a few hour :-)

If anyone will have similiar problem - try address 0 :)

I have not run into this problem with a Tsunami.

One thing about doing a reset on the Tsunami's. After you have entered the reset numbers you need to remove the power to the unit or the reset will not be completed.

I thought it was likely related to an address pb.  It has happened to me several times.  When moving to a 4 digit address, using a programming booster and service mode is the best way.  Make sure  you can check the key CVs after programming.

This is what I use:

Whether with Decoder Pro or the Cabs.
