Bachmann n scale 4-6-0 factory installed decoder installation
Posted by Seanthehack on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 11:42 PM

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a Bachmann n-scale 4-6-0 and am trying to "install" the factory installed decoder.  However, the instructions are confusing me and I am looking for some advice.  I have the shell removed from the tender and have removed the screw that holds the pcb board to the tender.

Now, the instructions say to cut off the dcc board from the main board and the wire according to diagram A and sketch B.  However I do not understand how the dcc board is wired, the instructions lead me to believe that the dcc board is discarded.

So,

Do I removed the wires from the main board and solder them to the dcc board?  And if so where?  The instructions lead me to believe the wires get removed and resoldered to the main board but in a different place.

Thanks,

Sean

Your information is extremely confusing -- if it has a factory installed decoder there is nothing to install.  Why are you trying to install something that is supposedly already factory installed ?

Your right it is very confusing, that is the reason why I posted the question. Here is what the instructions say verbatim;

B) Decoder Installation:

1) Remove the body shell by gently pulling the bottom side out and lifting the body shell.

2) Remove the screw which assembly on top of main pcb.  (exact wording on instructions)

3) Cut off the DCC board from the main board by tools per sketch "B". Connect the wires according to the diagram "A" and sketch "B".

4) Put back the body shell to the chassis.

If I had a scanner I would have scanned the instructions and posted them, but I don't have one.  It seems to me that the locomotive is equipped with a decoder but is is not installed.  However, the instructions are not very clear.

Thanks,

Sean

I figured out the out what was going on after some searching on the internet.  I would only brake off the dcc board to install a different decoder, which I may do in the future.  I found a wire from one of the pick ups in the tender was loose.  This is probable why the locomotive was not running.  More patience, on my part, would have figured this out before I posted.

Thanks,

Sean
