Thanks. I got the value of 17, from the decoder manual, for speed tables, and reverse running.
CV 29 is one of those CV's that needs to be calculated to obtain the correct number for various items to be turned off or on in the decoder. It is done by setting certain binary 'bits' in the number.
If you are not using JMRI Decoder-Pro, or NCE, you will need to do it manually. Most decoder instructions will tell you how. The info sheet that you get with you decoder is just a very basic 'How to get started' explanation. You can download most decoder manuals from the Internet, including Soundtraxx. That is where you need to start.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
Try 19 for a 2 digit address or 51 for a 4 four digit address
I have a Soundtraxx LC sound decoder in a Athearn GP 38. It runs well and the sound is OK. Last night I was speed matching it to run with another loco. The manual said to program CV 29 to a value of 17, to enable the speed tables and the unit to run in reverse. Then it said to program CV 25 to several different values depending on what speed curves I wanted to use. I did this and matched the speeds perfectly. However, with CV29 at a value of 17, the loco now runs dark. No lights front or rear, either direction. I put CV29 back to 3 and got the lights back, but lost the speed match. Then I put CV29 back to 17 and got the speed match back, but no lights. Is it possible to get the speed tables and keep the lights with a Soundtraxx LC decoder? I'm just using the loco as a trailer in a consist, but I still would like the lights when the consist backs up. Thanks.
