The Right Power Supply For A Booster
Posted by alloboard on Thursday, December 8, 2011 12:55 AM

What can I use to power the Digitrax DB200+ other than the Digitrax. PS2012 20. I don't know if I can use the Magna Force MF615 because it is a 5 amp power supply.

NCE has one, although it appears to be just a transformer with a plug, no circuit breaker or fuse on either side. Tony's has the XFR12.

Unless using larger scales where the power is really needed, 8 amp ooster are a false economy. Sure they are only a few dollars more than the same booster in 5 amps, but the power supplies cost a fortune. 5 amp supplies are very common, since you cna use laptop power supplies (essentially what the new Digitrax PS514 is).

The MF615 is not suitable for an 8 amp booster, regardless of what Tony's says. Their own test data shows the voltage droppign off sharply approaching an 8 amp load. 6 amps all day, but not 8.
