Adding DCC Boosters
Posted by alloboard on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 10:40 PM

I have a Digitrax DB150 and I have 10 locomotives and 3 lighted coaches. I have an additional DB200+. How many locomotives can the 5 amp Digitrax DB150 support? I f I have more trains than the DB150 is rated for, I will add the DB200+. My DB150 is hooked to the PR3 and a UR92. How should I hook up the DB200+. I at least know that I will hook a Loconet cable to the A or B port then to the DB150's A or B port. I have a UP5 interconnect panel will I need that? If I use Loconet I don't know if I have to run wires from the DB200+ to my tracks. If so should I divide my layout into a two district to separate the 5 amp district from the 8 amp district? or can I feed more power into the same district. I really need help with this setup. I will use all the help that I can get.

You need to divide the layout into two sections, with gaps in both rails (4 total gaps) and feed one section with the DB150, the other with the DB200. But I do not recommnd feeding 8 amps right to the rails, a short can easily melt something.

And you might not need it anyway. Are you actually runnign all 10 locos at the same time? Even if you are, I've run 8 on a Zephyr with 2.5 amps, and I ran out of room, not power. If you're not having problems, don't bother chnging anything. A DB150 cna run up to 22 locos (5 amps might not be enough) but you can own as many as you like. You cna own hundreds of locos, you can just run no more than 22. Adding the DB200 will not extends that - the limit is still 22 locos at a time.
