Soundtraxx DSD-100LC decoder installation problems
Posted by hon30critter on Sunday, September 18, 2011 8:26 PM

Hi there:

I am in the process of installing a Soundtraxx DSD-100LC decoder into an Atlas Roco F7A. It has been remotored with an MRC motor and runs very smoothly on DC power.

My problem is that with the decoder installed all I can get are the sounds of the engine idling with a bell ringing in the background. It will not respond to any other commands. No horn, no movement, can't turn the bell off.

I am quite certain that the motor is electrically isolated from the frame. I have not hooked up any lights as of yet. I have tried to reset the CV's to factory settings but nothing changed. The decoder has not been installed in any other locomotives.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Dave

Edit: I am using an NCE Power Cab DCC system.

What address are you trying to use? If you did a reset to defaults using the PowerCab's menu option, things couls be way messed up, that menu option is intended only for NCE decoders as it actually sets variosu CVs to assumed 'default' values. It's not the same as using the reset option built in to some decoders - and I don;t thinkt he LC series decoders had a reset option.

If it truly did reset, and even teh PowerCab's reset should have reset the address, you need to select address 3, not 03, not 003. Putting in the leading 0's tells the PowerCab to use long address 3, the default address on a decoder is short address 3. So just end 3 as the address when selecting and see if then you can control it.

I follow the instructions. CV8, enter 8.

Then select 3 for the decoder you just reset.

I have the Power Cab and SoundTraxx LC and Tsunami, plus Digitrax decoders.

Below is a link that is very usefull. Look in Curriculum and SoundTraxx. THe LC decoders are older SoundTraxx versions.

Below might have the LC manuals.

I reset an unresponsive  DSD LC100 in an F-7 a couple years ago, but I forgot how I did it. It involved resetting a CV and turning the power off and back on. I'll see if I can find what I did with the directions. I either called or E-mailed Soundtraxx for the info, but it was several years ago.

Randy and Rich!!!

Thank you thank you!!!

Problem solved. The trick apparently is using loco address '3' as opposed to '03' or '003'.

OK, I found it. I called Soundtraxx Tech Support at 615-892-2846.

Here's what they said. Program CV30 to 02 in service or OPS mode. Then turn the power off, then back on again. I recall it worked for me at the time. Hope this helps. I did this on a Zephyr.
