I have done one with the TSU1000 shrink wrap and one with the TSU 1000 light board. Bruce replaced the LED headlight for speaker room. I cut down the frame over the front truck to use the stock headlight.

Do a search in the DCC forum and you will find the photos of what I did. I used the same speaker. The stay alive cap fit in just fine.

Putting say an 8 ohm resistor in series with an 8 ohm speaker will not result in a 16 ohm impedence speaker. Either find a more than 8 ohm speaker, or be prepared to totally disable BEMF on the decoder so it doesn;t stop when you blow th horn.

  Jerry.

I have not had the shells off of mine for awhile and if I remember correctly there is not as much room as you think. I am not familiar with the decoder you are wanting to use but does it not require a separate motor decoder also? If that is the case then you will have 2 decoders and a large speaker to stuff into a thin shell with a drive system.

All I can say is good luck and be careful to keep your wiring neat and clean.

ready to put dcc/sound in VO-1000,any advise ?
Posted by BIG JERR on Friday, September 9, 2011 2:41 PM

I decided to make a install on a switcher ,so I decided on the Stewart/ajin VO-1000 from reading Bruce,s(litchfied station) dcc university pages and from what I gathered this is the roomiest of switchers ,.

now before people start gathering stones ,I'm going to try the digitraxx sdh164d w/ a 16x 35 speaker and a resistor due of the 8 ohm speaker.  I will down load a sound pack thats sounds similar to a baldwin to my bad ears...

any advise on install or experience with the VO-1000 or the 8 ohm w/ resistor speaker matched to the sdh 164 ?

and please no" got to have the tsunami "rants, if this does not work or does not yield a pleasant result I can always change the board ,for double the investment to the tsunami.

this is my first switcher , and its a bit small for me .so if things go south want to keep my losses to a min....Jerry
