Im sure i am doing something wrong, I have just installed a tsunami tsu-1000 in a steamer and it works great, I cannot program the lococ address, seems anything over the short address does not take using the auto program config through mrc controller. I am not sure if I do this right, i set the loco on prgram track and hit prog, then add comes up i hit 620 ansd enter all the way through, after that loco is still address 03. I am not sure how to prgram the long address manually, the cv 29 is complicated and worse off the mrc manual says to not chnage that? any help on this would be appreciated.

Not shure if this is true for all Tsunami decoder's, but to change from let's say 3 to 620, you need to program in any four digit address first, then progam in the address you want. Example: first change the address from 3 to any four digit address (maybe 1234) see if it responds to that address, then change it from 1234 to 620, it should respond to 620.

Thanks for the replies, do you know how i would go about programing cv17,18 and 29 for address 620? I know i would need the program 17, 18 as follows:
CV17 decimal value : 194CV18 decimal value : 108
what about 29? what do i do with that? and what order does this get done in cv 17, 18 and then 29?

I usually program CV 29 with a value of 34 to tell the decoder to run on a long address, DCC only, forward direction, 28 speed steps. If you want it to also run on DC power, program CV 29 to a value of 35.
Program CV17 then CV18 then CV29 in that order. Use a value of 34 or 35 for CV 29 as given by Cacole. I had the same problem with a Tsunami and a Zephyr system. and David's method worked.

David; do not know were you heard that. I have no problem programing Tsunami decoder's with my MRC with out doing all of what you suggested.

Larry, rather than de-bunking my knowledge, you dont you spend your time and actually help out the OP? Apparently, you know more than I do about MRC systems.

David, I was not de-bunking your knowledge, obviously you are well versed in computer's & electronic's, in fact you will probably forget more than I will ever know. I was just questioning the fact of your statement as to be the only way to program the address in the Tsunami with MRC.
I did respond to the OP's question, in fact I was the first one to respond. The method that I suggest to him was given to me by my local hobby shop owner who by the way is an autorized Sound Trax dealer, installer having been to there training classes. That is the method I use to program an address in a Tsunami without changeing any CV's with my MRC.

well thanks again to all! , it seems like programming 17,18,and 29 worked, no issues, I have had a few tsunamis and there was another that did this, i did not bother setting it up on mine, my friend has NCE and he was able to program it for me, know i know how to with mine if I run into this problem again. tsunami great decoder, it also says in the manual that some dcc systems may not work with the auto address and may have to be configured usuing the long address, i guess there are differences with them, but either way thanks to all fo your input.
I have a MRC Prodigy wireless and i just use the program procedure to set the 4 digit address and the system programs CV 17 , 18 and 29 . I have not had to do this manually step by step. I have not done this with a Tsunami decoder , only TCS and QSI
Use heavier, short wires to the program track? A Tsunami programs with the automatic address setting but TCS doesn't? That's even more strange.
But, my Zephyr reads and writes Tsunamis just fine, no booster, no blast mode. As does my PR3, using a PS14 power supply, not some aftermarket 18V supply that some say is REQUIRED to program sound decoders. I've explained my setup, doesn;t seem to be any different that anyone else is using, but it all just works. Best I can come up with is that my wires to the program track are 18 gauge and short (about a foot for the Zephyr, the wires from the PR3 are maybe 3 inches long). And soldered to the program track. ANd my wheels and program track are clean. It only takes a momentary loss of contact to get the decoder to stop responding to program commands, because it can't acknowledge the command station. Sometimes just slidign it back and forth slightly will get it to work - it could be anything, dirty wheels, dirt on the wheel contacts, dirty spot ont he program track. Otherwise I have a hard time explaining why what works for one person fails for another with the exact same equipment.

I've got two locos with Tsunami's and have had no problems with my Prodigy Squared 2 on either the programming track or the main. Strange....
