Cadman11,

I too will say the NCE decoders are excellent, whether board replacement, plug and play, or hardwired. I have bought more NCE decoders than any of the rest.

Regarding an upgrade, here's a quote from the NCE site:

Special Offer

Send in any manufacturer's HO or N Scale damaged decoder with $10.00 plus $2.00S&H and we will replace the decoder with one of NCE's finest replacements!
You might consider this as a low cost way to try one.
Have fun!

That's corre3ct, the NCE D13SRJ does not have BEMF. It does have very good torque compensation so if your model runs good on DC it will be able to creep even without BEMF. Did the price go up? You used to be able to get the D13SRJ's from EMpire Northern at about #12 each in the 10 pack. No one else has a decoder this cheap, yet unlike the usual case when you go cheap, this is a top quality decoder. Use it in anything it fits in, unless you need dozens of lights.

I love my Digitrax system, and no way will I ever switch, but I use as few Digitrax decoders as possible - currently, none installed in anything.

cacole

And the NCE decoder has BEMF and more (3) programmable light functions than the Digitrax DH123.

I like the D13SR's been using them as my basic decoder for a long time.   They have torque compensation for slow speed control (voltage kicks to the motor) but not BEMF, unless that is a new feature that has been added.?   Also they have 4 function outputs, so 2 more than the DH123 and IMO the NCE  works better with LED.s than the DH.  I took delivery of my last ones just 2 weeks ago and they do not list BEMF as a feature.

A much better decoder at an equivalent price is the NCE D13SRJ which is priced at around $16 each in a bulk pack of 10 decoders from Empire Northern Models in Webster, New York.

And the NCE decoder has BEMF and more (3) programmable light functions than the Digitrax DH123.

The DH123 series decoders are still made.  Digitrax will replace them if you provide a 'good' story of how you destroyed them.  but you will need to pay postage to send them back.  You can buy new DH123's in bulk for about $15 each from a number of sources.  The DH123 is a 'fleet' decoder.  They do not have BEMF and only 2 function outputs.

Digitrax DH123
Posted by cadman11 on Friday, August 26, 2011 8:40 PM

I recently visited our local MRRC and volunteed to help the out with some bad decoders - Digitrax DH123. Two of them I was able to reset back to factory default and all works well. The other two have front/rear light functions but no motor control..no motor output at all.

I understand Digitrax will replace/repair at no cahrge but wonder if they will upgrade to a newer decoder?

Thanks to all
