Sounds like if there are some capacitors left on the OEM circuit board.....

I did clean the tracks after the first time it stopped. I will try the reset tomorrow when I am a little more alert. I don't think the linkage or gears would be a problem since it runs so smoothly, but  I will check the linkages tomorrow too. Thanks for your response.

First thing to do when any issues with the loco is to do a decoder reset. I have the on board Tsunami and the Tsunami I installed myself.

Bachmann locos are sometimes known to have gear issues. Check the side rods for proper alignment, freedom to move.

Make sure you have cleaned the track and wheels. Not looks clean but has just been cleaned.

Tsunami Sound equipped Bachmann 4-6-0 issues?
Posted by farrellaa on Monday, August 15, 2011 8:13 PM

This seems to be my day for Bachmann problems. I have a new 4-6-0 from Bachmann that is factory equipped with the Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder. I posted earlier about this engine and solvedd that problem of runaway. Now, I noticed that the engine starts very slowlly and chuggs as it should, but only in reverse. When I go forward it will move a little abruptly and doesn't make any chuff sound until the drivers have moved about 2-4 revolutions and then it runs fine. When I stop in forward it slows down until about 5 mph (my guess?) and then  stops abruptly. In reverse I can start at a creep and the sound is right on. Also, a couple of times while running forward the enging stops momentarily and then starts again, with the brake squeal and then the chuff. I was planning to  call Bachmann (I hate to give up this loco for 6-8 weeks to send it back) but thought I would see if any of you guys had an answer or suggestion. I am suspecting a faulty decoder though.
