Digitrax Decoder SDh164D issues
Posted by Caso.Sub on Thursday, August 4, 2011 4:10 PM

Hi Guys

I have installed a digitrax sdh164d decoder in a bachmann gp7 dcc equipped loco. The loco moves, however the sound seems to disappear. How do I reset the decoder to get the sounds back? Motor control works, but just no sounds.

Thanks,
CASO

did you use a 35 Ohm speaker? For whatever reason Digitrax SDH164D's have an oddball 35 Ohm speaker impedance. The speaker that comes with it is the proper impedance (35 Ohms). This could affect the sound. If Digitrax would have used an 8 Ohm output the SDH164D Would have been a great little sound decoder. According to the instructions they say use a speaker with greater than 8 Ohms. I've heard that others have had problems using an 8 Ohm speaker.

I bought two of these and after trying to find a 35 Ohm speaker that would fit in my loco (near impossible), I finally decided to go ahead and just use Soundtraxx. More money, but better sound anyway. In the future I'll stick with Soundtraxx or maybe the new QSI Titan when it becomes available.

They're 32 ohm. ANything OVER 8 ohms works - a pair of ESU 50 ohm speakers in parallel for 25 ohms is a good option.

I just installed one of these in a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0. I installed it in a baffle box, sounded good for about 35 seconds and then just very light clicking noise since.

Using a Zephyr tried a resent on CV8, no response, nada

Anyone using this decoder and not having problems?
