I have a tsu-at1000 on order for my proto 1000 RS-2. I looked at it the other day, and all the wires are already color coded in the engine, as it is the newer walthers version. I think the speaker will go over the worm gear (?) for one truck and the capacitor over the other. Does anyone have any tips/hints for the install?
Thanks,
steamfreightboy
Take a look at the below site. Might be some help. Look at all his site Very good DCC info.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
For good sound, you NEED to use a speaker enclosure.
Elmer.
The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
Always use an enclosure for the speaker and fit the largest speaker you can.

I pray every day I break even, Cause I can really use the money!
I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
You might not need an enclosure if the diesel shell is tight fitting. I have a PCM made by BLI, F3, A/B set and a BLI F7 A/B set with no enclosures and they sound just fine. My two Stewart VO-1000's have no enclosure and sound fine.
My Spectrum 44 tonners and Spectrum 70 tonner need enclosures for decent sound. The shells do not fit very tight.
All my steamers use the tender shell as an enclosure. You might have to experiment unless someone can give you exact examples.
A lot of fine tuning of the equalizer settings in a Tsunami can give good results. I have a MDC Climax with much modified drive that is quiet and a Micro Tsunami with 3/4 inch speaker and a small enclosure in the cab roof. Had to do a lot with the Eq CV's for decent sound but chuffs in a small loco where not very loud.
Search this forum for Proto 1000 RS-2.
Someone put a Tsunami in his and he thinks a round speaker in the cab.
I have fitted a 16mm x 35 mm speaker up into the shell just behind the head light in a Walther's FM H12-44 diesel.
The stay alive cap is right under the speaker and just in front of the decoder board.
No idea on how this frame differs from the Walther's RS-2.
I had to cut a section out of the front of the upper frame but added weight where I could. That way I could put an engineer and conductor in the cab. I dislike running a loco with no crew. Does not seem prototypical. Maybe I am counting too many rivets.
