Svein Actually, while it looks like it might have two reverse loops, it doesn't have any at all. I have traced the lines several times now trying to figure it out, and what appears to be a double track figure eight with two reverse loops is in fact only a single track line twisted and folded over itself. Or, to be more precise, it's two separate figure eights with a couple of tracks connecting them together, in such a clever way that they run in opposite directions of each other. However, if you choose to place a crossover anywhere between the two figure eights, that would make a reversing loop. Svein

If you read the instructions for the layout in the book in which it is featured, the GG&N is specifically stated not to have any reversing loops. As Svein says, the plan is 2 figure 8's with non-reversing cutoffs between the 2 figure 8s.
In one version of Track Planning for Realistic Operation, John Armstrong shows how to modify the plan to allow full reversing, one on each figure 8. That would require installing autoreversers and understanding reverse loop wiring.
A caution - the layout is a much-copied design that features 2 trains performing display or railfan running through mountain scenery. There is almost no provision for any other kind of operation. And the plan has the limitations that come with 18" radius curves. Be sure that is what you want before committing to the build.

I have started this new layout and have the track in place. I should have considered this earlier, but now question if a reverse loop is in place that will require special wiring. I have a NCE DCC system.
The track plan is at this link. http://www.atlasrr.com/Code100web/pages/10028.htm
I am very electronically challenged but have managed to build and run a couple of other smaller layouts successfully.
Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can offer.
