hey all got an new p2k f3 (B) unit w/dccsound and right out of the box its got some kind bind up in the drive train ,any Ideas before I take it apart ?
and how do I remove shell ? thanks in advance Jerry
DO the trucks swivel freely? If not there might be a problem with the slide joint in the universal coupling. The only other thing you can really check without removing the shell is if there is a cracked axle gear, you can pop the bottom covers off without removing the shell. As for getting the shell off, look at the instructions, they used to show an exploded view, unless Walthers cut that out as a cost saving measure.

For the price Walthers charges for P2K locomotives the purchaser should not have to perform their own troubleshooting and repairs -- take (or send) it back and get a replacement.
If it's fresh from the factory, did you do a "break in" run?? I normally do 15 min. forward then 15 min. reverse at about 2/3 - 3/4 throttle. That often works out a lot of "kinks" on a new engine.
It it has an Athearn type drive (many of my Proto 2000's do) the problem may be motor related. I stopped the RTR Athearn's because I got a lot with motor issues (motor very slow or not working at all) and I've had one Athearn drive Proto 2000 exhibit this behavior. And people wonder why I buy Bachmann's now. Sheeesh!

I'm thinking its in the the gearing or drive train its a noisy one or two inches ,I need to learn how to remove these shells any how as I have about 4 sets of the f3/f7s p2k ,this b unit is brand new but ebay clearance @ 70bucks was going to put a bowser/Stewart shell on it ,couldn't pass it up ...
I have no fear that Walther's would warranty it,but I really think its an easy fix ...I seem to remember buying a loco where the drive shaft came out a socket in shipping a while back ...I will checkit out tomorrow
AH,success is sweet . well used the search on this site and found just enough info to get the shell off and low and behold one drive line was unsnapped @ the moter u joint ..removed the board ,snapped the drive line back on and she runs perfect ,like ALL my p2k f units ...
and amazingly the shell from the P2K is exactly the same as the Stewart ,minus the detailing on the P2K .the side windows (port holes ) is the snap and exactly the same ,one would think there made by the same mold !......hard part now is detailing the Stewart shells and speed matching the Stewart A unit to the P2k B unit . hay I'm excited ...thanks to all Jerry
