Make sure you remove the small board in the 9 pin. Otherwise you can fry something.

Thank you for the info.    This is the first time I have used this forum and I am amazed at both the speed and number of replies in a short time.  Your responce clears things up for me.  Thanks again, Doug.

I believe with the JST 9 pin you can configure for ditch light control as well.

You can use either a decoder with a 9-pin JST connector, or one with an 8-pin NMRA "medium" connector.  In either case, you need to remove that small jumper board from the JST connector.

And yes, the "DCC LAMP BD" contains the necessary circuitry/components for the existing lamps.  If you plug a decoder into either of those sockets, nothing additional is needed for the lighting.

Genesis SD70MAC to DCC
Posted by Doug of Durham on Thursday, July 14, 2011 10:25 AM

I recently purchased this engine in Alaska and I want to convert it to DCC.  The main board is labeled "GENESIS DCC LAMP BD".  Coming off the main board is a harness with a 9 pin connector, plugged into this is a small board with what appears to be 3 diodes.  On the other end of the main board there is also an 8 pin connector with nothing plugged into it.  I tested the engine on DC and everything works well.

Which connector do I use for the DDC chip and does this "LAMP BD" reduce the DDC lamp voltage to 1.5V for the existing lamps?  Is this main board both DC & DCC (it did not respond to address 03)?   There was no instruction sheet with the engine, just a parts blow up.    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
