Hamltnblue I also wonder if the Q2 chips are compatiable with the Q1a sockets. I just downloaded the Q2 manual. It's now 320 pages!!!

That's almost certainly a NO, hence the indications that there ARE a few limitations using the Q2 firmware with the Q1A chips - less storgae space means picking one whistle/horn and loading it, vs having a dozen available to pick between on the fly. Unless you're modelign an excusrion loco where various groups will often bring a different horn/whistle to be attached for a specific trip, this shouldn't be a problem.

I'm also curious about their new/upcoming Titan decoders.
Wish it also improved the BEMF of the older Q1s, too. The Q2 decoder in my Atlas HH600 is just terrific. As good as - if not better than - my Loksound decoders.

No, this is a firmware upgrade that allows you to used the Revolution sound files. You have to already have the Q1a chip upgrade. And a Quantum Programmer to laod the new firmware and sounds.
Randy,
Are you talking about the HO999 chip upgrades?

Q2 compatible firmware (which has downloadable sounds) for the older Q1a factory sound decoders. So owners of older QSI decoders can get the newer and better sounds in their locos without buying a whole new sound chip. Another reason to like QSI and their programmable design.
