Older P2K
Posted by willy6 on Friday, June 17, 2011 11:55 PM

I just aquired an HO P2K U28B locomotive with factory DCC/Sound. Looking at the paperwork that came with it indicated it was manufactured in 2005. What is the quality of this model's DCC/Sound compared to todays DCC/Sound systems? Thank you in advance.

Being old is when you didn't loose it, it's that you just can't remember where you put it.

Read CV7 on a program track and it will give you the version number of the chip. P2K factory sound was QSI for many years. It is one of the top of the line decoders. You can go to the QSI web site and download the manuals for that decoder.

In addition to Pete's excellent advise to check the QSI web site for the manuals, while you're there you may also want to check for an updated chip.  There's nothing really "wrong" with the original chips, but when available, the newer ones add or upgrade various characteristics, sounds, etc.
