Do I have the wrong IDC's?
Posted by freeway3 on Monday, June 13, 2011 5:04 PM

Hi all,

Just bought some IDC's for connecting track feeders (18ga) to my DCC bus (14ga).  They are 3M brand, light blue.

It appears that the thru hole is smaller than the blind hole in these connectors - I would think that the thru hole would be the larger one, for the larger 14ga wire. - do I have the wrong connector?  If so, could someone steer me to the right one?  Maybe a Mouser part #?

Thanks,

Ed

If I remember correctly, the 3M ones that you're after are the red ones.

You want the red 905 automotive conenctors, those are for 22-18 on the tap side, 18-14 on the run side. The 557 is also red but it is for wire sizes 22-16.

The light blue ones must be 560, looks like that one is designed to tap off 2 wires up to 18, from a single 14. Backwards for railroad use.

I think you remember correctly. 3M 905's are the red ones. They are 22-18 tap/18-14 run.
