OK Here we go again, previous help all worked so how do you put a decoder in a bachman B-27/30
that is not dcc ready. also what tcs decoder.
thanks larry
Not familiar with this loco.
It should be easy, for various values of easy.
No doubt split chassis. Isolate the two motor leads from the frame. Wire the decoder according to the standard NMRA wiring procedure..
If a twelve volt bulb, just connect the lighting wires. All decoders come with instructions.
If it has a LED which I doubt, a 1000 ohm resistor in series with one lead.
I have done a split chassis Plymouth switcher. The pancake motor does ok with a Digitrax DZ125.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
These instructions are for a Bachman GP35, but should be similar to your B23-7. Would take some skill, probably not good for a beginner.

Shows using a TCS M1 decoder.
Also check July 2011 MR. Similar Bachman split frame, but using a board replacement type decoder. Still have to take it all apart, isolate the motor from the frame.
I would recommend soldering wires directly to the truck pickups, instead of using the frame to conduct power. Should be more reliable over time.

Good instructions. The only thing they had wrong is that they called the inductors attached to the motor resistors. They look similar but have a different function.

That is fairly common with those who have no clue about the L/C filter that the UK and EU want in DCC locos.
If they put an ohm meter acros the "resistor" they would see zero ohms. But then, there is the question, what is an ohm meter?

An ohmmeter is an electrical instrument that measures electrical resistance, the opposition to an electric current.

Thanks printed out recomended instructions, as usual good info and help.
