Temporarily wire one of the headlights to the ditchlight bulb to test it.  Note the bulbs will probably be 1.5 volt.  The linik I sent the other day suggested instead to use the 12 volt output and use resistors.  If the bulb does not work off of the headlight it may have burned out and need replacement.  You could also hook a 1.5 volt battery to it to test.

Thanks for the reply, still having issues.  I've wired the ditch lights as instructed, but none of my lights are currently working on the locomotive, not sure what me next step is.

The Digitrax web site has information about light problems with Athearn locomotives and the DH165AO decoder:

http://tsd.digitrax.com/index.php?a=1156

If you search their site you may find answers to all of your questions/problems with that loco and decoder.

Your statement in your other post about this decoder being "an e-bay purchase that was a bit of a hack job" is probably 90 percent of your problem.

Where/How to wire ditch lights on a DH165AO decoder

Hello fellow railroaders, looking for some help.  This is my first attempt to changeover an Athearn Genesis SD70 to DCC.  I've chosen the Digitrax DH165AO decoder for the job, but I want to make sure I have it right.  Can someone tell me how and where I should be wiring the ditch lights?  I've read a lot of conflicting information and want to get it right.  I will be using the bulbs that were supplied with the loco.  Thanks in advance.
