Rivarossi literature says the motor draws .45 amps at 12 volts. This should be OK.

Pick,

Thanks for the input; I will check the paperwork as it came with the engine. It does have a can motor though and starts very easily.

Hi Bob,

Does the paperwork give a power rating of the chip, European manufacturers some times use chips with a silghtly higher rate than the 1amp Tsumami, just a thought, you could do with checking things out on a test rig and have a look at the type of motor.

Be in touch.

Tsunami 'Heavy Steam' decoder in Rivarossi Big Boy
Posted by farrellaa on Sunday, June 5, 2011 9:40 PM

I plan to install a Soundtraxx Tsunami Heavy Steam decoder in my late model Rivarossi Big Boy. It has the factory DCC decoder (Marklin or ?) and runs OK now. Any comments or suggestions on this install before I order it?  This is HO and I run a Digitrax Zephyr system. also, what speaker would you recommend?

thanks,

   -Bob
