I don't think is has to be ain any specific mode.

I am using JMRI with an NCE PowerPro.  I just leave it in the normal run mode and JMRI takes care of putting it in the correct mode for programming.  If you want to use the JMRI programming track mode, just make sure your programming switch is set for your program track and I think it should work just fine.

There is a JMRI yahoo group that you might want ask this same question on.

Elmer.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.

Since the PowerCab doesn;t have a dedicated program track output, you can use any programming method on your 'program track' including programming on the main. With your toggle set to the program track, the program track is the 'main' as far as the PowerCab is concerned.

NCE Power Cab and JMTI
Posted by albjr on Monday, May 30, 2011 1:42 PM

Hello all,

I just bought a new NCE Power Cab and their USB Interface board.  I have downloaded and installed JMRI and the Windows drivers for the board.  JMRI and the drivers have all installed correctly.  I have built a Program track separate from my main and can switch between the 2 with a toggle switch. My question is this: With the toggle thrown to select the Program track, does the Power Cab need to be in the Program Track mode (vs either normal or POM) in order for JMRI to work with the Program Track?

Thanks

Al
