How to operate SDH164
Posted by gepatt on Saturday, May 28, 2011 11:18 AM

Hi folks, I am new in the post. My home is in Comodoro Rivadavia, in the Patagonia Argentina. I am 61 years old, and I have more than 30 years in the hobby. My home language is spanish, but my grandfather was Scotch and he aproach me in the english language.  I bought a SDH164 sound decoder, and I can not use the functions F3 to F6. I have a NCE Power Cab, and when I press F2 button sound the horn, with F3 the bell, etc  etc.  I wired four diodes via a resistot to F3 to F6. How must I do for to switch them on and off  ??  Thanks for your help - Guillermo

I am not sure what you are asking here . But F1 is the bell, and F3 is coupler crash, F6 should be deisel not up notch up. If this is your question you should reset the decoder CV08 to a valie of 8. or if you are talking about the brown F3 wire I am not sure what it is for but there is no F6 funtion wire in the diagram. You need to be more specific with your question. Here are the links with installation and instuctions.

Hi, thanks for your soon answer.  My question is how to activate the lamps that I connected to the green (F1), violet (F2), brown (F3) and yellow (F4) wires.   Thanks - Guillermo

I looked at the manual for that decoder, and it doesn't have any information about how to control the functions.  These should be controlled by CVs 35, 36, 37 and 38.  That would map the 4 output functions to F1, F2, F3 and F4.  But, those buttons are already assigned to sounds, so they may have turned off the functions.  I don't have this decoder, so I can't say what they did.

If you change the CVs to values of 4, 8, 16 and 32, that should restore the control by those buttons.

You might also e-mail Digitrax and ask them how to use the functions.

Finally, are you sure you got the polarity correct on the LEDs?  If they're backwards, they will not turn on, no matter what you do to the decoder.

He's got me stumped. He idicates he installed diodes also via resistors. Not sure why.

We need Randy to the rescue.

Sorry, when I write diode I mean light emiting diode (LED). I dont believe I must remap the functions. Before write the forum, I look for in the Digitrax Manual and I didn't find any answer. I'll write directly Digitrax. Thanks - Guillermo

Here's a link to Digitrax's website for their master decoder programming manual.  Starting on page 50 discusses function remapping to map lights and multiple functions to specific function keys.
