DCC systems recommendations
Posted by woodman on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 2:34 PM

I am now leaning towards converting from DC to DCC. I am looking for recommendations for DCC systems that are easy and relliable and won't break the bank. I see ads for the Zephyr Digitrak, is this a good system and what extra equipment is needed to install one of these systems? I am aware of the review in MR May issue, how reliable are these reviews.?

This is a topic that comes up a lot, you can do a search and find a lot of info on DCC systems and the pros and cons of each system.  A lot of folks like the Zephyr, I personally have the Digitrax Super Empire Builder but also alot of folks love their NCE systems.  Once you get your system, you will be a little overwhelmed but once you quickly get the hang of it, you will wonder how lived without it.

woodman,

The Digitrax Zephyr (and now newly released Zephyr Xtra with 3.5A of power) are very good systems and very reliable.  The Zephyr should go for $160 discounted; the Zephyr Xtra, $180.  NCE also makes a very good starter DCC system; the Power Cab.  Discounted it goes for $150-$155.

Both come with their own wall transformer and are ready to go right out of the box.  All you have to do is hook it up to your track.  You can't go wrong with either system.
