Which decoder to use?
Posted by Mich153 on Monday, April 11, 2011 8:20 PM

I have several older engines that i am looking at converting to dcc and have seen a lot of youtube videos were people use the Digitrax Decoders. Will these decoders work with any controller? Can i run the train on a dc track even if it has been set up for dcc? What advices can you give to me about the best product to use, with cost not being so much.

Thanks,

Any DCC decoder works with any DCC system. I use Digitrax and do';t have ANY Digitrax decoders. If you want low cost but good, check out the NCE D13SRJ, a 10 pack is $120, $12 per loco. Can;t beat it. If you need more than just front and rear lights you'll need somethign else with more functions.

Yes they work on DC, if you haven't disabled DC operation when programming them.
