I agree.. do it at the club.  You did not say what DCC system you are using at home but the Digitrax is really simple, just dial in the number you want and hit enter and off you go.

Take the loco to the club and I am sure someone will be please to show you how to program the loco.

With a Digitrax system there is no need to worry about CV17, CV18 and CV29. They are taken care of automatically.

To adjust sound volume I strongly recommend the use of JMRI and I am almost positive the club is equiped with this software.

Athearn Genesis Pragramming

Just Tuesday I bought myself my first sound equipped loco, an Athearn Genesis F45 with factory Tsunami sound. I have read and downloaded the manual but I am still unsure of how to address the long address. How do I do this? I understood using CV17 and CV18 for the address, but then the manual says I have to reprogramm bite 5 of CV29 so the decoder recognizes the extended address. What is that, and how do I do it?

Is will used at the club and therefore be programmed there, I do believe they use Digitrax Super Chief. I know a couple of the other members were talking about it being 10A if that all helps. I do know I can take the loco to the shop I bought it at and they would be more than happy and willing to programm it for me, but I would really preffer to do it myself. I haven't broken in the engine yet (that will be this saturday) but tried it out and it's already amazing so I'm mostly concerned with programming in the extended address to the loco road number and adjust the volume settings.

Also, does anyone have recommendations on what volume levels to set the sound effects at? Momentum (I would like a little to start with but not a lot) Blink rate? (will be reprogramming to the rotary beacon effect instead of default Stratolight beacon effect).
