If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
I bought a handful of the discontinued LM3909 flasher IC chips last year from Futurlec, who happened to still have stock on hand. These IC's only require an electrolytic capacitor and an LED to create a flashing LED that will run off a 1.5 volt battery. Wired differently the circuit can be powered with a 3 volt source. See the data sheet for circuits.

Are there any vendors that offer track pick-up trucks?

Try one first before buying 4. Mine tends to grab switch points and frogs sometimes. On the bottom of the truck there is a small square containing the electronics. A piece of styrene covers it. Sometimes it sags some and will derail the train or even totally catch something. Pushing it up fixes it for a while. I haven't messed with it much to find a fix. I may have just picked up a dud.
Look for a SMD 555 and all SMD components if space is important.
I have the one from Ring Engineering.
If your into kit bashing, A EOT can be made from a 555 timer IC chip from the shack. They even have a boklet on projects you can build with the chip. I have one in my tool box. The battery is six years old and still going.
