You'd probably do better getting the sb3 (I think) booster first, it'll let you unplug the PowerCab and walk over to one of the other panels you're talking about installing without having the entire system shut down. You'll just want to make sure that nothing bad will happen in that time (ie run a switch, run off the end of the track).

As long as you understand, which you seem to from the above quote, that the layout will shut down anytime you unplug to go from one PCP to another, then yes, you can have more than one PCP on the layout and be able to operate from more than one place. You would also need to get an additional power supply unless you wanted to move the power supply every time you moved the Power Cab. Personally, I would be more inclined to get a UTP panel and an additional throttle, such as one of the Cab04's.

The PowerCab has to be plugged in to the power cab panel for trains to run, if you unplug it everything stops. Using a second cab, you can add additional panels to plug that cab in to, but the PowerCab must stay connected to the proper jack on the original panel. You would have to upgrade tot he SB3 to be able to move the PowerCab around as well as additional throttles.

I have the NCE PowerCab and my intent was to install the power panel in the middle of my layout to get to eiter end (I have a long "u" layout). It is a stretch to get to either end so I was thinking of installing an additional Power Panel so I can plug into each one. Will that work or is the option to add additional Power Panels just for additional cabs? Can I unplug from one and into another as I need, obviously not while running trains :) I would like to go wireless at some point but right now that isn't really an option but the additional Power Panel is like $20 or so.
