Thanks, Mark. Hopefully, ESU will do that for their v4.0 and Select decoder sound files, too.

Thanks for the info, Mark.
So, Loksound appears to be emulating Soundtraxx's marketing strategy of having several sound options on a single decoder. I wish they still give you the ability to listen to sounds on their web site.
If you check ESU's site, you'll see the full range of the Loksound Select decoders that use 4 ohm speakers ....

The new 4.0 decoders will also use 4 ohm speakers as they've gone away from using the original 100 ohm speakers. These new 4 ohm speakers kick butt ! LOL

I agree. The low speed response with any of the Loksound decoders has always been very good.
With that said, however, the new QSI "Q2" decoders - IMO - are as good as the Loksounds in that department. My Atlas HH600/660 crawls exceptionally well.
I'll look forward to seeing and hearing the new Loksound 4 decoders. If they have indeed improved their sound files, I hope that includes the whistle for the USRA Mikado. That's the only thing I didn't like. The chuff was decent but could also use some improvement, too. I assume they still be using the 100 Ohm speakers as before?
Speaking of which, whatever happened to Loksound's "Select" decoders that were supposed to use 4 and 8 Ohm speakers, like the Digitrax and Soundtraxx decoders? I've heard very little about them since their release in 2009(?).
I have to agree, Mark. My earlier LokSounds are unbeatable in my modestly sized hodgepodge of sound decoders, including upgraded chips. Nothing comes close to the low speed control of the ESU's.
This is true at the manufacturer's level as they are being replaced by the much improved version 4.0. By the time the 3.5's run out at the wholesale / retail level, there should be plenty of 4.0's to go around.
New files have been and are currently being recorded for a completely new line of more finely tuned and accurate sounds. With a track record for the best motor control out there, these new 4.0 decoders are going to be the ones to watch (and listen to) !
Thanks, Rich.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
