Need Help wiring First N scale DCC layout.
Posted by NewEnglandCSX on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 9:35 PM

So i have my first layout set up and am kinda lost. I have the Atlas N-2 here https://secure.atlasrr.com/mod1/customkititems.asp?kc=K11002&eq= And i am kinda lost with the block selectors and things. The unit i will be using is the Digitrax Zephyr extra. I added to the sidings a bit. Problem is i have no clue how to wire this. Do I need the block selectors cause its dcc? Also does it need more than one set of rail joiners? I am sorry for alot of questions but new.

-thanks Shaun

Shaun,

 Welcome to the hobby  Welcome

The track plan you have picked will be a good place to start and when operated in DCC does not need to be divided into blocks.  You might consider using the 3 terminal joiners spread around the layout being sure to keep each rail the same color and connect one color to the rail A terminal and the other color to rail B.  Stick a decoder equipped loco on the track and start running trains.  Be sure to ask questions as they arise.

Enjoy the trains,

Dave

No, you do not need block selectors.

To wire it, connect the two wires from the Digitrax Zephyr to the track.  Your done.    If you really want to go crazy put a second set in parallel to the first but connected to the track on the opposite side of the layout.

Adding to the sidings will not change anything.  Well, that is unless you went crazy and connected them in a reversing loop fashion.

I would actually not expect it to need any rail joiners.   Each piece of track comes with a joiner on each end.  So unless one gets damaged more should not be necessary.  One set should be plenty.
