I got the repair accomplished. I had to remove, only, the bottom plate that holds the wheels in to access the power wires (formerly) soldered to the power pick up strips.

My point exactly! What DO they attatch to? That exploded diagram is so...exploded that it's hard to tell what goes where and to what.
Simple text like: " the two screws to remove the cab and boiler are located under the front pilot truck and under the cab/drawbar, etc." would be nice! Too much to ask of a manual?
For future repairs, I'd like to find out how the superstructure is removed. Working on steam locos "blindly" is nervewracking with the factory repair facility 4,000 miles away and 5 spring loaded driver sets anxious to launch themselves across the workbench.
My soldering teacher, Roger, will be pleased however, that I finally got the courage up to solder something! Even my beginner joints were better than the factory's. Sheesh.

What do the screws 00219 behind the pilot truck and 10109 in front of the tender drawbar attach to? And that 10181 drawbar screw seems to be sticking up there a pretty long ways. Check and see if these hold on anything that looks important.

I give up. I looked at the exploded diagram on Bachmann's site, looked through "our" archives, etc.
I have a black power wire pulled out from under the cab and drawbar and would like to resolder it. Is there
only one screw under the pilot truck? Under the cylinders? Just pull tabs under the cab or another screw?
Why oh why can't they put simple instructions on how to open locos in the manuals like they used to?
