Has anyone out there MU'd an Intermountain GEVO and the SD70ACe from Athearn together? Are they close in speed or will I have to speed match them? Thanks!
It is always good practice to at the very least run a pair together, but not connected, to see if they are close enough. I have seen enough variation in pairs of identical locomotives from the same ,manufacturer to say that some level of speed matching may be necessary. Even if someone responds and says that they have the two and they are matched perfectly, I would still do the test and see.

Your answer is basically the same as the other 2 threads you had on it. If they're DCC you can speed match them by setting the min and max speeds or by using the speed tables.

FWIW I have MU'd this pair (actually 2 SD70ACe's and the IM GEVO) without doing any particular speed matching and they MU'd beautifully. I use NCE and find it very easy to set up consists. Just looking at the 2 models (IM and ACE) they look like they came out of the same factory and probably did. I haven't taken either apart yet to look, but I wouldn't be surprised if the components are not very similar. I did run them on parallel tracks and out of the box they were almost identical. This is the only matching I did. As they say, your mileage may vary, but this was my experience..
